Ethane C2 Cracker (Olefin) Unit

The Ethane C2 Cracker (Olefin) unit produces the feedstock for the low-, medium-, and high-density polyethylene units. The construction of the unit began in March 2001 based on engineering and procurement contracts, with the collaboration of the French Technip and the Iranian EPC Nargan Company, and was completed in 2007. The annual production capacity of the unit is one million tonnes of ethylene. About 600,000 tonnes out of it are used as the feedstock of the complex's downstream units to produce low-, medium-, and high-density polyethylene. 175,000 tonnes of it are sent to the EBSM unit in the Pars Petrochemical Company and the remaining 225,000 tonnes are sent to the west of Iran to be exported to the international market, which is of great importance to the company technically and commercially, particularly in cases of a drop in the production capacity or the downstream units' lack of demand. To produce one million tonnes of ethylene, the olefin unit needs 1.267 million tonnes of ethane which is supplied by the Pars Petrochemical Company.
